About Us

The Etta Y. Seton Memorial Foundation is a non profit organization that strives to change the dynamic of how cancer patients go throughout life. We believe that having cancer is hard enough, and to ensure that each of our lovely patients have the support system they need we have based our foundation on Christianity so that our volunteers and donors understand the essence of having a servant heart like Christ did.

Our Story

Cancer continues to be the leading cause of death in many Americans in the United States. Though cancer kills rapidly, due to the advancement of medicine and constant research, doctors have been able to bring treatment and surgeries to those diagnosed with cancer. The most common treatment that cancer patients are given is called “chemotherapy”. Chemotherapy is basically a treatment that uses special drugs to kill cancer cells in hopes to help cure the patient. When taking chemotherapy the patient experiences extreme fatigue, mouth sores, weight loss, flu like symptoms, and extreme/complete hair loss. Patricia Dixon, chairman and founder of The Etta Y. Seton Memorial Foundation and breast cancer survivor, knows these side effects better than anyone. During her journey through cancer and constant chemotherapy sessions, Patricia noticed that some of the other women did not always have someone to transport them to and from the hospital and ensure that they were not alone during the daunting process. Patricia knew how hard it was to get up some mornings and go to the hospital to sit for hours and receive a treatment that caused so many negative effects, just to do it again. Seeing these other women have no support system, hit Patricia hard. From that moment on she told herself that she would help other women and people who got diagnosed with cancer feel supported. This is where The Etta Y. Seton Memorial Foundation comes into play. The Etta Y. Seton Memorial Foundation wants to make sure that no one going through cancer feels alone. To make sure we accomplish this goal, we provide transportation to and from the hospital for patients who do not have anyone else to help them. Our work does not stop there though. We make sure that each patient we help has a healthy and fresh meal to eat before and after each chemotherapy session and also offer cleaning services to ensure that unhealthy germs are to a minimum. With these services we hope to raise awareness for patients well-being before, during, and after these treatments and not just give money to help find a cure. We believe that each and every cancer patient is a person and not just a part of another cancer statistic. Although the advancement of research and finding a cure is important, the patients themselves matter.  We know that everyone does not always make it past this horrible disease and that is very disheartening. Etta Y. Seton, who is the mother of Patricia, passed away from breast cancer and brain cancer during the same time her daughter, Patricia, was going through cancer treatment. Not only was Patricia going through the death of her mother and cancer treatment, she was also pregnant with her second son, Lonnie, who was not projected to live due to her diagnosis. Despite the odds, Patricia was cured of cancer and her son Lonnie is now a seventh grader in middle school. This is why we firmly believe in the lives behind the diagnosis. We know that life doesn’t stop once you get diagnosed with cancer and most patients are still dealing with family problems, money issues,  and even job loss. This is why the Etta Y. Seton Memorial Foundation humbly asks for your hand in Impacting and Uplifting for a Greater Hereafter by expanding christian discipleship; helping cancer patients with before, during, and aftercare; and ensuring the love of God shines through everything we do.
